PAINTING
Painting is one of my favorite physical mediums because of the flexibility allows for experimenting with colors and textures. I generally gravitate towards acrylic because of the layering capabilities and the deep, saturated colors I can create. While I usually prefer digital media, there is something special about a more tangible practice. Experimentation and failure feels more natural and welcomed with painting and I'm always able to create something truly unique.
Over the past couple of years, I've been really drawn towards these sort-of intensely emotional female portraits. I think women are extremely powerful, and I'm incredibly grateful to have so many inspiring & supportive female figures in my life. However, the world is not always so kind to us, and so I try to capture expressions that reflect the exhaustion, frustration, and sadness I think many of us are currently feeling.
The collage and 3-dimensional elements were kind of a random discovery, but I liked them so much that I started using them in all of my paintings. This technique allows me to add more texture and visual interest to draw you in and highlight some of the smaller details within the painting.
